So, every year, the aroma of a perfectly roasted Christmas turkey fills the house and signals that Christmas is finally here. Meanwhile, this classic roast turkey recipe has been passed down in our family for generations, becoming a staple at every holiday gathering. However, the secret to a juicy, flavorful Christmas turkey lies in the preparation, and I can’t wait to share this recipe with you.

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole turkey (10-12 pounds)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary (chopped)
  • 1 lemon (quartered)
  • 4 garlic cloves (crushed)
  • 1 onion (quartered)
  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). So, you will need to ensure that the oven is hot enough to begin cooking the Christmas turkey evenly.
  2. Meanwhile, remove the giblets from the turkey and pat the bird dry with paper towels.
  3. However, be sure to rub the softened butter, olive oil, salt, pepper, thyme, and rosemary all over the turkey. Ensure it’s evenly coated for maximum flavor.
  4. So, stuff the turkey cavity with the quartered lemon, crushed garlic, and onion for added flavor.
  5. Moreover, place the Christmas turkey on a roasting rack inside a roasting pan, pouring the chicken broth into the bottom of the pan.
  6. Roast the Christmas turkey for 2 to 2.5 hours, basting every 30 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  7. Once done, remove from the oven and let the Christmas turkey rest for 20 minutes. Then, carve and serve.
