Every time I bake chocolate cookies, it feels like I’m stepping into my grandmother’s kitchen. The kitchen is warm, filled with the scent of freshly baked cookies, and there’s a sense of comfort that wraps around you like a soft blanket. So, I remember as a child, sitting on the kitchen counter, watching her work her magic with the cookie dough. My grandma always said that the secret to a perfect chocolate chip cookie was “a pinch of love” and a generous amount of chocolate.
Over the years, I’ve experimented with different versions of this classic treat, but none quite compare to the one I learned from her. These cookies are soft, chewy, and filled with pockets of gooey chocolate—a treat that will instantly make you feel at home.
Ingredients Chocolate Cookies:
- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
- A pinch of sea salt (optional, but highly recommended)
Instructions Chocolate Cookies:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda.
- In a separate large bowl, beat the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until creamy and smooth. This step is where the magic happens—the creaming of the butter and sugar makes the cookies soft and chewy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and sprinkle in a pinch of sea salt for an extra flavor boost.
- Scoop tablespoon-sized dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers are still soft.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
Tip: For extra chewy cookies, take them out of the oven just before they’re fully set. Moreover, they’ll continue to cook on the hot baking sheet, giving you that perfect gooey center.
